    Medical Travel Applications and AI

    QUESTION

    Greg –

I am an RN with several specialties and have been traveling since COVID. I love to travel, but it seems I spend more time completing my application than I ever have. Not only that, my recruiter pressures me to provide extensive details and to complete the application practically overnight! What gives?

    ANSWER

Congratulations! You have described the effects of our clients’ use of AI in their application and credentialing process.

Facilities are using AI to screen applicants for several reasons, including:

    1. By scanning resumes looking for specific key words and phrases pertinent to their job opening, they reduce their time to hire.
    2. AI quickly identifies candidates with the required skills, experience, and licenses needed.
    3. AI can adjust the screening process to accommodate clinical simulations relevant to the specialty needed.

What does the traveler need to do to provide AI-ready information?

    1. Provide specific, detailed, accurate information that directly answers the needs addressed in the job description for which you are applying in the timeframe that your recruiter sets.
    2. Work with your recruiter and credentialing rep to “parrot” the exact words, spelling, acronyms, and capitalizations used in the facility’s job description.  In effect, use their own “key words and phrases” when describing your information.
    3. Provide all certifications or licenses and accurate expiration dates. AI will identify and recommend those candidates who have the correct credentials.
    4. AI will “grade” or “star” those candidates who are the best fit based on the words and the order of those words that fit the profiles. You want your application to grade an “A” or “5 stars” by AI to move to the next phase of the hiring process.

In conclusion, AI demands that the applicant’s submittal time be timely,  and the submittal information must literally address the specific needs and requirements described in the facility’s job description. It is crucial that the traveler work closely with their recruiter and their compliance representative for a successful submittal.

As we have said in several prior “ASK GREG” blog posts, preparation is key in this market. Put your information in the hands of your favorite recruiters so that when the contract hits, they have ALL the information to submit you, not only in an accurate and timely manner but also formatted in a way that is friendly to AI.

    Thanks for your great question!
