Healthcare Travel: Getting the Travel Job You Want In 2024

Are you wondering why you aren’t getting the positions that you apply for? Healthcare travel in 2024 is trending to be more competitive and requires quicker response time from recruiters and applicants to land available assignments.  Additionally, facilities require complete profiles, instant submission by agencies, and agile, prepared travelers. Most facilities use AI screening tools to enable them to quickly parse profiles to meet their hiring deadlines.

There are still ways to get those jobs that maximize your travel experience if you are willing to prepare ahead and be specific regarding your needs while remaining flexible.  Here are the secrets to successful travel in 2024:

    1. Be flexible in choosing destinations to travel. No longer can a traveler be very specific in their desires to travel to a certain area and expect to keep busy.  Because there are fewer available assignments, the more flexible you are, the more likely you are to have opportunities and choices. Plan ahead: discuss with your recruiter the areas you are interested in and ask about the availability of contracts and any trends he may see for the future.
    2. Determine the pay range that you are willing to accept and share with your recruiter. Investigate current pay rates at your desired locations and be realistic. Your recruiter will want to get you the best pay rate possible within the facility’s budget and does not want to waste your time proposing jobs that do not fit your criteria. Be honest with your minimum pay expectations. But also, invite the recruiter to give their feedback as to what you can expect.
    3. Complete the paperwork needed within 24 hours of job posting – or even better – before you are ready to travel. As you know, not only are jobs filling within hours of posting, but the facilities are screening candidates more thoroughly and quickly.  No longer will they consider an incomplete candidate profile or wait for references.
Give your recruiter permission to submit you to all jobs within your parameters with the goal of getting an offer. You are under no obligation to accept any offers; but can choose the one (if any) that works best for you. If the recruiter needs to wait for your permission, there is a greater than 80% chance that the opportunity will be filled by the time you have given consent.
    4. Communicate with a sense of urgency! If you don’t respond to your Recruiter or with Credentialing within the same day, someone else will. That someone may get the job you wanted.

In conclusion, this highly competitive market demands that successful travelers demonstrate flexibility, timeliness, and preparation.

Know what you want and communicate it clearly and promptly. This extra work and foresight will get your submittal in the right hands at the right time.

    Happy Traveling!
