A Modern Day Explorer
Travel RN, Amanda J., has been a Travel Nurse for a year and absolutely loves her job. Amanda confides to her recruiter that she feels like she is on an extended vacation, but with a work schedule. “I get to live in a ‘cool’ place for a few months without having to commit to work on a permanent basis.” If fact, she loves the travel lifestyle so much, she has decided to attempt to work in all 50 States.
Traveling does not just appeal to Amanda’s fun side, she believes the “independence of traveling as a nurse gives me the edge I need to be consistently satisfied in my career.” She also likes that Travel Nursing allows her to be paid weekly and to significantly increase her compensation without having to work overtime.
Amanda specializes in Behavioral Health and Geriatrics and loves working with the senior population and being a recipient of their words of wisdom and stories.
One of my favorite memories occurred while I was on an assignment in Oklahoma. One of my patients wrote me a letter thanking me for caring for her during one of the lowest points in her life. She said that she really enjoyed talking to me and felt like I listened to her when she needed someone to listen with out judging her. I felt validated as a caretaker; it is those moments (right person, right time, divine intervention) that make Travel Nursing even more gratifying.
What does Amanda like about working with Convergence? “My recruiter, Christie, ranks a 10 in my book. She is awesome at her job, is always a phone call away, answers my questions promptly and gives me accurate estimates related to weekly pay. I feel like we are friends although we’ve never met, but she’s won my trust.”
Amanda’s advise to other Travelers is: “Don’t be afraid to ask questions on the client site and be open to trying new things – it will broaden your skill set.” She has also made friends with many of her coworkers while on assignment and stays in touch with them regularly.
Did you know that St. Louis was the first American City to host the Olympics and it was there that the first interstate highway was built? Amanda did not know either … until she landed a Travel assignment there. Isn’t it time for YOU to explore the U.S. and discover new things?
Amanda, its sounds like you are using your skills and passions simultaneously. It is rare that one gets to do that! You were made to be a Travel Nurse!
